Hanley hurting, out of lineup

Hanely Ramirez winched in pain several times while swinging the bat in Tuesday’s 5-2 win over the Mets.

On Wednesday, Ramirez was out of the lineup again with a sore left elbow. The elbow has bothered the three-time All-Star shortstop for about six weeks. He had missed four straight games prior to Tuesday.

Now, it is unclear when he will play again. Ozzie Martinez started at shortstop on Wednesday, while Logan Morrison batted third.

The Marlins are shorthanded in the infield because Emilio Bonifacio is nursing a tight left hamstring. He won’t be ready for at least two more days.

Florida concludes its homestand on Wednesday with Alex Sanabia starting against New York’s Jon Niese.

Hanley back in lineup

Hanley Ramirez is back in the Marlins lineup after sitting out four straight games with left elbow inflammation.

The three-time All-Star shortstop came in early on Tuesday and took some swings in the cages. While he didn’t show full extension with his elbow during batting practice on Monday, Ramirez is playing, and he will wear a protective sleeve on his left arm when he is batting.

Ramirez said his elbow has been bothering him for about six weeks.

The Marlins and Mets open a two-game series on Tuesday at Sun Life Stadium. Adalberto Mendez gets the start for Florida against New York’s Mike Pelfrey.

Logan Morrison enters Tuesday riding a string of 39 straight games of reaching safely.

Marlins-Cardinals lineups

The Marlins and Cardinals are making up their Aug. 8 rainout with a 3:10 p.m. ET contest at Sun Life Stadium.

The Marlins have lost a season-high six straight games. Their task won’t be easy as St. Louis is going with Chris Carpenter. Chris Volstad pitches for Florida.

Marlins All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is not in the starting lineup for the fourth straight game due to left elbow inflammation.

Emilio Bonifacio was initially in lineup batting leadoff and playing shortstop. But hew as scratched due to left hamstring tightness. Ozzie Martinez filled in, making his first big league start at shortstop.

Marlins-Phillies lineups

The Marlins strive to avoid being swept on Wednesday, but it will be a daunting task.

The Phillies are sending Roy Halladay to the mound, while the Marlins are countering with Jorge Sosa, who will start for the first time since 2007 when he was with the Mets. Reliever Brian Sanches likely will throw multiple innings in relief of Sosa, who may only go three or four innings.

Gaby begins suspension

Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez, who was in the middle of the benches-clearing altercation with the Nationals on Sept. 1, is beginning his three-game suspension on Friday night at Washington.

Wes Helms is getting the start at first base for Florida in its first meeting with the Nationals since the incident in Miami.

Sanchez was one of the active participants in the altercation as he knocked down Nyjer Morgan, who had charged the mound and thrown a punch at Chris Volstad.

In the seventh inning of the Sept. 1 game, Sanchez was drilled by a Doug Slaten pitch. Slaten received a three-game suspension.

By serving the suspension now, Sanchez will miss all three games at Washington.

Marlins lineup for Friday: Emilio Bonifacio (3B), Logan Morrison (LF), Hanley Ramirez (SS), Dan Uggla (2B), Wes Helms (1B), Mike Stanton (RF), Cameron Maybin (CF), Brad Davis (C), Alex Sanabia (P).
