Gload deal finalized

When the Marlins acquired Ross Gload from the Royals late in Spring Training, the deal was made for a player to be named.

On Wednesday, that player indeed was named. The Marlins announced right-hander Eric Basurto will be headed to Kansas City to complete the trade.

Basurto was a 33rd round pick in 2006.

Mr. Frisaro,
On the 'player to be named later' trades, how is it determined who the player will be? Is it a negotiated deal, or does the the team receiving the player get to pick from a certain pool of available ones? How does that work?
I have always wondered how that is determined. I think my all-time favorite 'player to be named later' was Dontrelle Willis
