Marlins hire Redmond as manager

MIAMI — The Marlins’ search for a new manager ended where it started, with the hiring of Mike Redmond.

The 41-year-old former big league catcher was the first to interview for the position that was vacated when Ozzie Guillen was dismissed on Oct. 23.

Redmond will officially be introduced as manager at a press conference Friday at Marlins Park.

Redmond sat down with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and members of the front office on Oct. 24 in New York City.

A catcher with the Marlins from 1998-2004, Redmond was Ivan Rodriguez’s backup on the 2003 World Series championship team.

Redmond also played from 2005-09 with the Twins, and his playing career ended in 2010 after he appeared in 22 games with the Indians.

Along with Redmond, the Marlins also interviewed Reds pitching coach Bryan Price, Larry Bowa and Lloyd McClendon, the Tigers hitting coach.

Great..read in another newswire he git a 3 yr contract same as Ozzie.. No offense to the new manager but he really wanted to manage in the majors if he accepted going to the Marlins. On the other, if he is fires after the first season he can go and join Guillen on a beach for two years. No we have a comedian and a stripper as manager. Do wish him the best of luck
