Coghlan, Dobbs scratched for Friday

JUPITER, Fla. — A couple of minor ailments caused the Marlins to make a few scratches from their lineup on Friday.

Greg Dobbs has a tight left hamstring and Chris Coghlan tweaked his lower back. Both are expected to be fine in a day or two.

Coghlan felt discomfort on Friday, while doing a vertical leaping drill. Dobbs felt something tighten on Wednesday night against Florida International University.

Logan Morrison was supposed to be in the lineup on Thursday at Port St. Lucie, but he didn’t make the trip due to some soreness in his right knee. Morrison last played on Tuesday against the University of Miami at Marlins Park.

Morrison is rebounding from a scope to his right knee. He said if it were the regular season, he’d be in the lineup. Morrison actually was supposed to play first base at Port St. Lucie. The starting left fielder has been also taking ground balls at first base.

Anibal Sanchez, who hasn’t started yet due to a sore right shoulder, threw a bullpen session Friday at the Roger Dean Stadium complex. The session went fine, and Sanchez is slated to throw live batting practice on Sunday. If all goes well, he will make his first Spring Training start on Wednesday against the Rays in Port Charlotte.

On Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium, the Marlins are playing host to the Nationals. Wade LeBlanc is starting for Miami. Stephen Strasburg is going for Washington.

The Marlins-Cardinals exhibition on Saturday will be televised on FS Florida. Josh Johnson is starting vs. Kyle Lohse.

Miami’s game at the Red Sox on Monday will be televised on ESPN.

Before Friday’s game, the Marlins re-assigned lefty prospect Chad James to Minor League camp.
