Marlins Park ready to ‘Play Ball!’

JUPITER, Fla. — The hype over the Marlins new ballpark isn’t lost on the players.

Several hours before Tuesday night’s exhibition against the University of Miami, a few Miami players were on the field, taking pictures of their new home.

Although it is just a meaningless preseason game, there is historical significance to Tuesday’s game. It marke the first time the Marlins ever played at Marlins Park, which is 29 days away from Opening Day.

The Marlins will open the 2012 MLB season with a nationally televised game on April 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tuesday is the first of two straight days the Marlins will face a college team at Marlins Park.

On Wednesday night, they take on Florida International University. All 15,000 seats for that game have already been sold out.

For Tuesday night, the Marlins made 10,000 seats available, and all were sold well in advance.

Weather permitting, the retractable-roof is staying open for both exhibitions.
