Anibal feeling better, but not throwing yet

JUPITER, Fla. — Anibal Sanchez will not throw for at least two more days, and then he will be re-evaluated.

The Marlins’ right-hander felt some soreness in the back of his right shoulder on Friday, and as a precaution, he is taking it easy for a few days.

The soreness isn’t considered serious.

“I just want to make sure everything is fine,” he said. “Like everybody says, we’re early in Spring Training. Nothing to rush. Just make sure I get ready for the season.”

Sanchez threw a bullpen session on Friday, and afterwards his shoulder was a little tight. He was initially scheduled to throw in Sunday’s three-inning, intrasquad scrimmage on Field 2 at Roger Dean Stadium.

Manager Ozzie Guillen says Sanchez will be fine. For now, the team is pushing back his Grapefruit League debut from Friday to Saturday against the Cardinals.

Sanchez says he is not sure if he will throw on Tuesday.

“Right now, we’re just going to take a couple of days off,” he said. “Just therapy, working out. No throw.”

The encouraging sign is his shoulder is feeling better than a couple of days ago.

“Right now, I feel much better,” Sanchez said. “The soreness is less than it was two days ago. Everything is coming along good.”
