FanFest set for Saturday at Marlins Park

JUPITER, Fla. — Purchasing a season ticket package remains the best way to guarantee a ticket to the Marlins’ Opening Night.

Saturday’s Jiffy Lube Marlins FanFest will offer fans a chance to check out Marlins Park, meet the players, and inquire about ticket options.

Admission is free, but there is a $5 parking charge in the stadium’s four garages.

The first ever FanFest at Marlins Park will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be town hall-style meetings on the field, behind home plate.  On the West Plaza, there will be interactive games. And there will be several autograph sessions with the players. All the players on the 40-man roster will be at FanFest. The others will go through a morning workout at Roger Dean Stadium.

FanFest also is a select-a-seat event for those interested in the various season-ticket packages.

Individual game tickets — except for the April 4 opener against the Cardinals — will go on sale at 10 a.m. at the stadium and on

For Opening Night, which will be nationally televised, the Marlins made available a limited number of seats. The team is using a lottery system to determine who gets those tickets. More than 90,000 registered for the lottery.

Those who secure a season-ticket plan will have the opportunity to get seats for the opener.

The team also is encouraging fans interested in early season games to step up soon.

The first homestand, from April 13-19, is expected to sell out quickly. The Astros are in town April 12-15, followed by the Cubs (April 17-19).

Miami’s Interleague home series against the Red Sox (June 11-13) also is projected to draw plenty of interest.

The Marlins will actually play their first games at their new home on Tuesday and Wednesday, when they face the University of Miami, and Florida International University, respectively.

For the two college games, only a limited amount of tickets are being sold.

The roughly 10,000 seats for the UM game have already sold out. Only a few seats remain for the FIU exhibition, where 15,000 seats are being made available.

The Marlins are closing out their Spring Training exhibition schedule on April 1-2 with two straight games against the Yankees at Marlins Park.

All seats are gone for the April 1 Sunday game. The April 2 game should be sold out by the end of the weekend.

There is a chance the stadium’s new home run feature will be ready to go on April 1 against the Yankees. But that decision isn’t finalized.
