Reyes atop Marlins’ shopping list
DALLAS — Heading into the Winter Meetings, which begin on Monday, All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes is at the top of the Marlins’ shopping list.
The Marlins are moving aggressively, and according to a league source, the deal on the table right now is for six-years, $90 million. It is doubtful the team would add more years to their offer, and it remains to be seen if they would bump up the current offer.
The Brewers are also courting the 28-year-old free agent, and present real competition for the Marlins. The Mets also are expected to talk with Reyes’ representatives at the Winter Meetings in hopes of retaining the veteran shortstop.
Miami also is coveting starting pitching. The team seems willing to spend the right amount of money on C.J. Wilson. It will be a matter of if the lefty wants to leave Texas for Miami.
Mark Buehrle, meanwhile, is a possibility. But Buehrle seeks a no-trade clause, which is something the Marlins’ don’t generally do. The no-trade clause could present a problem.
