Volstad optioned to New Orleans
MIAMI — Marlins right-hander Chris Volstad, who has an 8.50 ERA in four July starts, was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.
Volstad, 5-8 with a 5.58 ERA through 20 starts, threw five innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Friday night. He gave up three runs in the first inning, and four runs in the game, with three earned.
The Marlins will make a corresponding move after Saturday’s game with the Mets at Sun Life Stadium.
In four starts in July, Volstad is 1-1 with an 8.50 ERA, giving up 17 earned runs in 18 innings.
