Stanton scratched with eye infection
ST. PETERSBURG — Mike Stanton was scratched from the lineup on Saturday night due to a right eye infection.
The 21-year-old Marlins right fielder took batting practice, but afterwards, he spoke with manager Edwin Rodriguez.
Stanton was set to be the designated hitter against the Rays, but he was replaced by Jose Lopez.
The eye issue has bothered him for at least a few days.
“After BP, I talked with him,” Rodriguez said. “He said that his right eye was bothering him. Seeing the ball was a little bit blurry. He’s not 100 percent, especially the middle-away pitch.”
