Gaby has sore hamstring
Gaby Sanchez, who hit the controversial foul ball on Thursday night, was not in the starting lineup on Friday in the series opener with the Cardinals
Sanchez has a sore right hamstring. He felt it tug a little during a steal of second base in the seventh inning in the Marlins 5-4 loss to the Phillies on Thursday.
In the ninth inning, Sanchez slapped a hard grounder down the third base line that the Marlins felt should have been the game-winning hit. But the ball was ruled foul by third base umpire Bob Davidson. Had it been fair, Hanley Ramirez would have scored from second with the decisive run.
Sanchez is listed as day-to-day. Chad Tracy made his first start for Florida on Friday, filling in for Sanchez at first base.
The sore hamstring isn’t serious, and Sanchez stretched and did some warmups on Friday. He also was available to pinch-hit.
A Rookie of the Year candidate, Sanchez is leading the Marlins with a .294 batting average. He has 12 homers and 52 RBIs.
