Minor Leaguer Reed on DL

Evan Reed, one of the Minor League pitchers acquired in the Jorge Cantu trade with Texas, has been placed on the disabled list with a right elbow strain.

The Marlins obtained Reed and right-hander Omar Poveda from the Rangers for Cantu on July 29 while the club was in San Francisco.

Reed, a right-handed reliever, made one appearance with Double-A Jacksonville. He threw 1 2/3 innings for the Suns on July 31. He is on the DL retroactive to Aug. 2.

Before the injury, the Marlins felt Reed was close to being big league ready. He threw 39 innings at Double-A Frisco in the Rangers system prior to the trade.

Poveda, a starting pitcher from Venezuela, is recovering from Tommy John surgery and he should be ready for Spring Training.

Ok we have an awesome potential starter in AA ball. Any chance on calling up Elih Villanueva? The guys numbers are fantastic!!!! Yes he may be playing for the Suns but they really need to give him a shot. After all, they did give Alex Sanabia a shot
