Maybin getting shoulder checked
Cameron Maybin went 2-for-4 on July 1 at Nashville, raising his batting average to .357 at Triple-A New Orleans.
That’s the good news for the 23-year-old outfielder.
The bad news is he hasn’t played since, and he has been placed on the seven-day Minor League disabled list with a left shoulder injury. Maybin had surgery on the shoulder last November, and he is heading to Miami to have it re-examined by the Marlins physicians.
Because of the previous surgery, Maybin and the team are being careful. The shoulder has bothered him a for most of the season, although he never used it as an excuse.
Maybin opened the year as the Marlins starting center fielder. In 51 games for Florida he batted .225 with five home runs and 19 RBIs.
The Marlins optioned Maybin to New Orleans on June 18.
