Cantu flirting with history
What Jorge Cantu is doing right now is impressive. It’s also potentially historic.
The Marlins cleanup hitter is riding a seven-game hitting streak, as well as a string of seven straight games with at least one RBI. For the season, Cantu has 12 RBIs. The Marlins also have played seven games.
If Cantu collects at least one hit and one RBI on Tuesday night against the Reds, he will grab a piece of MLB history.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time a player started a season with more than a hit and RBI in every game the team has played you have to go back to 1921. That season George “Highpockets” Kelly started the year with an RBI and a hit in eight straight games. The mark has stood for 89 years.
