Projected Marlins Opening lineup

Meet the 2010 Marlins. They actually look a lot like the 2009 squad.

Now that the club has reached agreement with a number of key players, the projected starting lineup is more in focus.

Even though Cody Ross is headed to an arbitration hearing, still expect him to be in the Opening Day lineup.

The return of Dan Uggla and Jorge Cantu also gives the middle of the order some power.

Here is my projected Opening Day lineup:

1) Chris Coghlan, LF

2) Logan Morrison/Gaby Sanchez (whoever wins the job), 1B

3) Hanley Ramirez, SS

4) Jorge Cantu, 3B

5) Dan Uggla, 2B

6) John Baker, C

7) Cody Ross, RF

8) Cameron Maybin, CF

9) Josh Johnson, P

— Joe Frisaro

Cameron Maybin is the natural first hitter in the Marlins line up. Coghland, hitting lefthanded, is naturally the second Hitter. 3 and 4 are OK, of course, but number 5 is going to be Baker, lefthanded hitter, with Uggla number six, Ross seven, and Morrison or Jorge Jimenez hitting eight, only because you don’t want to offend their self esteem, because really, Josh Johnson should be hitting eighti.

I agree with Pepe. Cameron should be about MLB-ready now and should be using his speed at top of the order. Morrison/Sanchez should be given time in the 8th hole to practice with some major league pitching. And remember, Uggla is not a clutch hitter (.243 AVG-2009), and that’s why he hit 6th for most of last year.

What about Brett Carroll? I’ve never seen anyone on the team show as much hustle as that kid does, and quite honestly think it should be him, Cody and Coghlan in the outfield with Maybin on the bench or in the minors.
