Ross exits in fourth

Cody Ross was plunked on the left hand in the fourth inning by a John Maine fastball, and the Marlins center fielder was immediately replaced.

The team announced Ross has a left wrist contusion. An X-ray came back negative, and he is listed as day-to-day.

Batting with Jorge Cantu on third base and two outs, Ross was struck by a 92 mph fastball. Clutching his hand, Ross headed to the Marlins dugout, and he was examined by assistant trainer Mike Kozak.

Cameron Maybin ran for Ross, who went to the clubhouse for further tests. Maybin remained in the game in center field.

The count was 1-0 when Ross was hit. The Marlins next batter, Brett Carroll also was struck by a Maine fastball, hitting him on the left arm on a 2-1 pitch.

Ross has 24 home runs and 90 RBIs and he’s hitting an even .270.

On April 27 at Citi Field, Maine hit Hanley Ramirez with a 94 mph fastball on the right hand in the first inning. Ramirez exited the game and didn’t start the next four games.
