Nick Johnson is back
After two rehab assignment games, Nick Johnson was cleared to return to the Marlins.
On Thursday afternoon, the team made it official. Johnson was returned from his rehab assignment and reinstated from the disabled list.
The veteran first baseman will be in uniform for Florida on Thursday night in the series finale with the Braves.
Johnson has not played since Aug. 16 due to a right hamstring strain.
Also on Thursday, the Marlins selected the contract of infielder Andy Gonzalez from Triple-A New Orleans.
Adding Gonzalez was necessary because All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is dealing with a strained left hamstring. With Ramirez resting, Emilio Bonifacio had been the only shortstop option on the roster.
