Nick Johnson ready?
Nick Johnson played six innings and had two at-bats in a rehab assignment on Wednesday night for Class A Jupiter.
It was the veteran first baseman’s second rehab game, and this is his first game action since Aug. 16, when he sprained his right hamstring.
With a couple of Marlins regulars dealing with minor ailments, is the team ready to reinstate Johnson on Thursday for their series finale with the Braves?
After the Marlins beat the Braves, 8-7, on Wednesday night, Fox Sports Florida’s Craig Minervini reported that Johnson said he was headed to Miami on Thursday and that he’s “good to go.”
After the game, Minervini exchanged text messages with Johnson.
The Marlins had been planning on Johnson joining the team on the road this weekend at Washington. That may change now out of need.
The team is dealing with a couple of ailments. Hanley Ramirez is resting a strained left hamstring, and outfielder Jeremy Hermida left Wednesday’s game with a right intercostal (rib) strain. Both are listed as day-to-day.
In two rehab games for Jupiter, Johnson is 1-for-3 with a double.
