Groundbreaking essay contest
The ceremonial groundbreaking at the Marlins new ballpark will be July 18 from 10 a.m. til noon ET. Fans are encouraged to attend. There is no fee, and the day will feature activities and refreshments.
Additionally, one fan will have a chance to be an honorary participant at the ceremony at the Orange Bowl grounds in the Little Havana section of Miami.
The team has established a groundbreaking essay contest.
The author of the winning essay will receive an invitation to be one of the honorary participants at the commemorative ceremony, along with four VIP passes to the event, an official groundbreaking ceremony shovel, a personalized Marlins jersey, and four infield box tickets to an upcoming 2009 Marlins regular season home game.
Kids, 6-12, are encouraged to describe what the new ballpark means to them and why they want to play a special role in the historic groundbreaking ceremony. Kids are encouraged to submit their 500 or less word composition in either English or Spanish.
Submissions will be accepted online at www.marlins.com or in person at the Marlins executive offices at Land Shark Stadium (2267 Dan Marino Blvd. Miami, FL 33056) before 5 p.m. on Monday, July 13. The essays will be judged by members of the Marlins executive staff based on the following criteria: originality, spirit, clarity and organization of the composition.
