Playing it safe with Sanchez

General feeling around the Marlins is Anibal Sanchez will be back in the rotation … eventually.

The reason he went back on the disabled list after Thursday’s game is partly precautionary.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said there was concern that since Sanchez’s bullpen session on Thursday didn’t go smoothly, the team would shut him down for a little bit.

Sanchez is now on the DL with a right shoulder sprain for the second time this season.

He is in a no-throw stage for a few days, and then re-evaluate him.

Sanchez started on Tuesday against the Brewers, but he lasted three innings, and tossed 71 pitches.

“His velocity was good,” Gonzalez said.

Sanchez was throwing 92-93 mph. So looking at his velocity, you couldn’t tell something wasn’t right.

Where the Marlins became alarmed is when they asked him how he felt, and Sanchez’s response was indecisive.

The reason he was brought off the DL without more rehab starts in the Minor Leagues is because he did what the organization asked of him.

Ricky Nolasco is slated to replace Sanchez in the rotation, and get the start on Sunday.
