Penn being designated

After a rough outing on Wednesday night, Marlins reliever Hayden Penn was informed that he will be designated for assignment on Thursday.

The Marlins will replace Penn’s roster spot on Thursday. A candidate is right-handed reliever Tim Wood, who is at Triple-A New Orleans.

Wood was in Spring Training with the Marlins.

Penn endured a rough night in Florida’s 9-6 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday. He entered with one out in the fifth inning, and he allowed four runs, although just one was earned. He walked four batters, and exited with a 2-1 count on Corey Hart. Brian Sanches inherited that count and finished off the inning.

The Marlins acquired Penn late in Spring Training in a trade with the Orioles for infielder Robert Andino.

With Penn out of options, the Marlins have 10 days to either trade him, or if he clears waivers, they will place him in their Minor League system.

Penn NEVER belonged here. I’m sure he is a nice guy, but good riddance from a baseball standpoint. Maybe he and Julio can go become roommates
