Amezaga will be a while
The healing process is taking a while for Alfredo Amezaga.
On the disabled list since May 21, retro to May 17, with a left knee contusion, Amezaga is weeks away from returning.
Actually, he’s suffering from a bone bruise to the side of his left knee. The Marlins versatile utility man has not yet started any baseball-related activities. He’s been undergoing treatment. He did some light throwing a few days ago, but he hasn’t reached the point where he is ready to field ground balls or run.
He rides the stationary bike.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the team hasn’t talked yet about when he will start running, fielding or hitting. And before he returns, he will play in several rehab assignment games.
With a bone bruise, it is tough to estimate a time frame.
“We haven’t got to a target point yet,” Gonzalez said.
It could be another month.
In 2007, Jeremy Hermida suffered a bone bruise to his right kneecap. He fouled a ball of his knee in Spring Training, and his first game with the Marlins that year was May 14.
