Maybin making progress
When the Marlins optioned Cameron Maybin to Triple-A New Orleans on May 11, they did so to help him regain his form at the plate.
Thus far, the 22-year-old has.
After going 1-for-4 on Thursday night against Reno, Maybin is hitting .357 in eighth games for the Zephyrs.
If the Marlins are looking to add an outfielder on Friday to replace the roster spot of pitcher Cristhian Martinez, the timing may be right for Maybin.
Players optioned have to wait at least 10 days to be called back up. That eliminates Brett Carroll and Alejandro De Aza.
Maybin is eligible to come back after he’s gone 10-for-28 with New Orleans.
Adding Maybin also makes sense since he is a center fielder, and on Thursday night Cody Ross left the game with a migraine headhead.
It would be risky to assume Ross is completely fine to play in the series opener with the Rays at Land Shark Stadium on Friday.

Good to see that Maybin is hitting and he only has 3 strike-outs in his time down there….but he also hasn’t walked at all in his 25 PA. I still think he needs a little bit more time in the minors; very rarely does 2 weeks against subpar pitching solve all your hitting problems at the Big-League level. Don’t get me wrong, I wish Maybin the best and he is still a huge part of this team’s future, but it still may be too early for him to come back
It’s not like the Marlins have a lot of options. Maybin is on the 40 man roster. Carroll and De Aza aren’t choices. In a perfect world, everyone would have more seasoning and be completely ready. The Marlins need outfield help immediately.
The Marlins need alot pitching and offensive help…immediately.
God no! I don’t want to see this clown back in the majors wearing a Marlins uniform… This guy is a career minor leaguer type he’s not a good major league hitter period.
