Koronka officially added

Late Tuesday morning the Marlins made their roster move official.

Left-hander John Koronka had his contract selected from Triple-A New Orleans, and he will be the starting pitcher against the Brewers at Miller Park.

Koronka is taking over the rotation spot for Anibal Sanchez, who is expected to miss about two months due to a right shoulder sprain.

Koronka was in big league camp with the Marlins as a reliever candidate. So it will be worth watching to see if he will remain in the rotation, because he also could provide long relief if the Marlins opt to give Hayden Penn a shot at starting.

Penn has thrown in long relief, but he hasn’t been stretched out to go deep into games.

Andrew Miller, who had a strong rehab start on Monday night for Double-A Jacksonville, is expected to come off the DL and start on Saturday against the Dodgers at LandShark Stadium.

Miller has been out with a right oblique strain.

What about Rick VandenHurk? Is he not still available for call up? I thought he was pretty decent last year.

Nevermind I see you already answered that question in Breaking down rotation options….that’s what I get for jumping the gun….my bad.

Also, VandenHurk is still on the DL with that elbow problem. I’d guess he’d need about a month to build back up to being a realistic candidate. Second half could be where Vandy can help the most.
