Barone showing improvement
If the Marlins are looking to dip into their farm system for a starter to perhaps replace Anibal Sanchez in the short term, Daniel Barone is in line to pitch on Tuesday.
Sanchez hurt his right shoulder on Thursday in the fifth inning against the Braves. It hasn’t been officially announced that the right-hander will go on the disabled list, but indications are that is a given.
Barone pitched on Thursday night for New Orleans against Round Rock. His outing didn’t last too long, just 1 1/3 innings. Barone was finished after 29 pitches because he was ejected for hitting a batter.
The 26-year-old Barone saw limited time with the Marlins in 2007. With New Orleans, he is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA. Word is his fastball is 90-91 right now, and his slider and changeup have improved.
The Marlins haven’t said who will pitch at Milwaukee on Tuesday. If Barone doesn’t get the call, and the team stays with who is on the current roster, Burke Badenhop and Hayden Penn are choice.
