Bonifacio's first HR

Emilio Bonifacio entered Opening Day with 192 career MLB at-bats without a home run.

In his third at-bat as a Marlin on Monday, he put an end to the drought. But the first time he circled the bases as a big leaguer didn’t come in conventional style.

In the fourth inning off Julian Tavarez, Bonifacio lifted a fly to deep center field. Lastings Milledge, who was playing shallow with Cameron Maybin on third, couldn’t run down the ball that dropped well before the warning track.

Bonifacio kicked into another gear and raced around the bases for an inside-the-park, two-run homer. It came on his 195th MBL at-bat.

It was the 14th inside-the-park homer in Marlins history, and 11th at spacious Dolphin Stadium.

Bonifacio, a switch-hitter, had 12 home runs in the Minor Leagues, with one coming last year. On Sunday, he said his last home run was in the Dominican Republic Winter League.

The last Marlin to hit an inside-the-park HR was Hanley Ramirez on Sept. 26, 2007 vs. the Reds.

Haha, where is all the haters on Bonifacio now? How many messages did I read about what a bad decision it was for the Marlins to get rid of McPherson and keep Bonifacio? So after today whos better: Bonifacio going 4-5, 3 SBs, inside-the-park-homerun, or McPherson going ??? wait he did not make an opening day roster. I’m not bad talking McPherson, but the Marlins management has a track record of making questionable moves, but the moves always pan out. And always people talk sooo much crap about the Marlins choices, but when things work out they are the same people who stand behind the team. Yeah, I wish McPherson was still a Marlin, but I doubt he could have done what Bonifacio did today. BTW, good luck where ever you land Dallas – and I can’t wait to see you back in the majors smacking homeruns.

Let’s not put Bonifacio in the hall of fame yet marlinsfan4ever. Yes, he was AWESOME today…….but it was just one game. Don’t get me wrong, I would like to see him play like this all year, but there are 161 games left. Let’s let things pan out before we say Bonifacio was the right choice.
