Bonifacio speed by numbers
There is fast, and then there is Bonifacio-fast.
Hanley Ramirez calls Emilio Bonifacio the fastest person he’s ever seen. Cody Ross says Boni makes what would be a triple for a fast runner an inside-the-park home run.
Bonifacio’s inside-the-park homer on Monday awed the crowd of 34,323 at Dolphin Stadium.
According to the Marlins personnel department, Bonifacio’s speed on the bases ranks in the top five of anyone in the big leagues.
Batting from the left-side on a full swing, he’s been clocked at 3.86 seconds to first base. On a bunt, he’s at 3.68 seconds.
Compare that to Juan Pierre. In 2003, JP was at 3.9 seconds.
The 3.68 speed on the bunt for Bonifacio ranks up there with players like Ichiro Suzuki, who also is one of the fastest in the game.
From the right-side going down to first base, Bonifacio’s been clocked at 3.9. Cameron Maybin is at 4.0, and Hanley is around 3.9 and 4.0 seconds.
