Bonifacio to lead off in Opener

Barring a last-second change of thinking, Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez is planning on having Emilio Bonifacio lead off in the season opener on Monday against the Nationals.

Gonzalez made that announcement on Friday, noting that he is leaning towards the switch-hitting third baseman hitting atop the order in the first game.

Cameron Maybin is expected to hit eighth. So the tentative order will be: Bonifacio, John Baker, Hanley Ramirez, Jorge Cantu, Dan Uggla, Jeremy Hermida, Cody Ross, Maybin and Ricky Nolasco.

At least early in the season, Gonzalez plans to use Bonifacio atop the order against lefty and right-handed pitching. Bonifacio is a career .167 hitters against lefty starters, compared to .264 against right-handers.

Washington is going with left-hander John Lannan on Opening Day.

It’s SUCH a shame you’ll have to write about the Marlins losing their first 3 games, Joe. LMAO
Cause I can tell you the Nats AIN’T losing 100 games this year. (Of course, they probably won’t WIN 100 games, either…but that’s beside the point.)
Anyway, I can’t wait for Monday!!!
Nasty Nats Live Here (and Everywhere)

Lol, that lmao that you wrote should be a “jk” because even though i agree that the nats are WAY better then last year there is NO WAY that the Fish will be swept. If anything its the otherway around. We have a better offense “not by much but we do” and Way Better pitching, by far. You guys can take your defense over ours but too bad you cant catch balls flying over your heads into the stands. lol Go Fish
